The down under wonder from Beenleigh, Australia, Ryan Guettler is a former Dew Tour champion in both BMX park and Dirt (2005) and was looking for more great things to come his way. But in 2007 injuries and bad luck sabotaged his entire competitive season. Healthy and back up to cruising altitude – and scoring a couple Dew Tour podiums in both Park and Dirt in ‘08 (one of only a couple athletes to pull that) – Guettler will be a force to be reckoned with come the Chicago Nike 6.0 BMX Opener and all points in between.
The 26-year-old hit American soil pedaling at full speed, and before long he was getting serious coverage in every BMX magazine and finishing in top spots at every contest he entered. His combination of big tricks, high speed, and all-out style make him a fan standout everywhere he goes. And when you watch him laugh at himself after a crash you can tell that he truly loves what he does. Guettler literally owned the AST Dew Tour in its inaugural year by winning both the Park and Dirt—a feat that no one has been able to duplicate since. Spending a lot of time in California when he first moved to the States, Guettler eventually settled in Greenville, N.C., aka “Protown” (for all the pro BMXers that live there, including his Monster Energy teammates, Dave Mirra and Mike Spinner), where he rides with those guys on a daily basis at Mirra’s Animal House ramp facility and on his own backyard ramps. Guettler truly is the leader of our bmx familie.
